It exists to slow things down. Not to resist progress, but to ensure that progress remains responsible, understandable, and sustainable.

Civil engineering one of the fields that quietly supports almost every aspect of daily life such as roads we travel, water we depend on, structures that protect us, and systems that keep communities functioning. Yet the reasoning, responsibility, and governance behind these systems are often invisible even to those working within them.
